Colosseum of Rome: Event Management game

Colosseum of Rome is another research project that I had undertaken during my college days. I had teamed up with a good friend and a classmate of mine by name Avishek, for this one. This event was a part of the management festival “Espirit0405”, organized every year by the prestigious Christ College of Bangalore.

The project required that we design a unique first of its kind event which is to take place at a national level in India. For this we were required to form a hypothetical event management enterprise, provide some background to it and then get on with the event itself. As a part of this event, we were also required to design teaser ads. Teaser ads are pre-launch ads that are shown on various communication medias much before a product is launched, to build up publicity. The project report and the ads were to be submitted for evaluation as a pre-qualification criterion. Once chosen, the teams would be allowed to participate in the next round (in Bangalore). Then there would be another round of elimination (say semi-finals) and then the final round.

The semi-final round required that we present the project to a panel of judges who would then ask questions based on the presentation.

None of us had a clue about event management and initially most of my time was spent reading about large event management companies, especially the ones who manage shows of popular DJs and music bands. Still we had a great dearth of ideas and for quite a while and we were unable to decide what our event should be. Finally, based on the World Gaming (PC-games) events organized in Singapore (or was it Korea??) the previous year, we decided to have a national level gaming event in India. To check out the project use the download links at the end of this post.

We were eliminated in the semi-final round of that event. There were some hiccups in our presentation, but after we saw other presentations for this event, we were flabbergasted and thought that we should have been allowed into the finals (why does it always happen to me?:-)) Nevertheless, when I look back, it was not the trophy or the cash prize that was important but the quality time I had spent with my friends, doing research and designing the project report. I (with another team/classmate) had also participated in a business quiz event in Esprit0405 and won the second prize. I don’t remember the amount I had won (though I was very happy to make some quick buck back then). All I remember was the quality time, the sleepless nights and words of encouragement form my team members. I miss those colloege days, some times.
